The Year of the Tiger

Holy roller coaster Batman! The Year of the Tiger is upon us, and I’m ready to pounce. According to the Chinese calendar, the new year begins around this time, up to 6 weeks after the calendar New Year. Luckily, those of us who’ve already let our resolutions go by the wayside can raise another glass and and celebrate with some dim sum. 2010 is the year of the Tiger, the 3rd year in the 12 year zodiac cycle. That means that no matter how good or bad this year turns out to be, you have to wait 9 more years to experience another one. Pretty sweet gig there.

Don’t know how to find your sign? You’re probably not a Tiger. But I digress. There are scads of good resources and links, so I’ll just send you to my favorite. Because I can. If you’re a Tiger, like yours truly, you’re gonna have a slammin’ year. Tiger years bring massive changes, volatility, and upheaval~ sort of a 365 day tsunami. The most recent Tiger Years have been 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010; the next year, sadly, isn’t until 2022. Tigers are charismatic, fearless, tender and loving, selfish, bold, attention-seeking, noble, beautiful forces of nature. And yes, I know all that stuff doesn’t go together, which is why tigers don’t make sense to most people. Yet, you’re inexplicably drawn to us because of our fierce loyalty and penchant for hugging.

Tigers LOVE change and unpredictability, which is why Tiger years send other signs down their rabbit holes, certain that the world is coming to an end. The Dragon and the Horse are quite compatible with Tigers, and will weather this year better than other signs. If you think fun is a day spent on the highest roller coaster in town, you’ll have a marvelous year. Otherwise, you might want to purchase your 5 pt. harness pretty quick-like. This is not a status quo kind of year! As soon as one thing settles down, you’ll notice something else popping up that needs bashing. Kind of like those Whack a Mole games that are so secretly satisfying. (Try it sometime).

The Year of the Tiger can be a scary year for people who want to know When, What, and Why, but it’s a year that calls to us to step out of our safe zone and find our inner (fabulous looking) beast. If you’re a Tiger, be careful not to be too indulgent with yourself. Life will bring more blessings this year, but you can easily step over the edge and devour something that you only meant to play with. Prowl around a bit, let out a few growls when no one’s looking, and be prepared to pounce when appropriate. A year of optimism, courage, and change. Yippee!

Smooches for another week—
